English version

Students in Germany often do not have much money. But they have to spend a large part of their money on housing.

Some students no longer live with their parents. They live in their own apartment or in a room. They pay money for rent every month. They also pay money for heating, electricity, and water. These costs are called utility costs.

These students receive money every month. They work or receive money from their parents. This is their available income. On average, they pay 54 percent of this income for housing. That is more than half of their money.

Therefore, many students have big problems with money. They are heavily burdened financially. This means: They have great worries. Especially in big cities, rents for students are very high.
